Do you work in my suburb?

We're based in Duncraig, WA 6023. If you're nearby, call 0423 677 455 or send an enquiry with your suburb and we'll let you know whether we can help.

How do I get a quote?

Call 0423 677 455 or send the enquiry form with a short description of the job. Photos help, especially of a switchboard or a damaged fitting, and you can email them to localelectricalhandyman@gmail.com. Depending on the job, it may be possible to price it from photos, or it may need a look on site first.

My safety switch keeps tripping. What should I do?

A safety switch (RCD) that trips is doing its job: it has detected a possible fault. Unplug the appliances on that circuit and reset the switch. If it holds, plug things back in one at a time to find the culprit. If it trips again with everything unplugged, leave it off and call a licensed electrician. Never hold a safety switch on or bypass it.

Does my home need safety switches before I sell or rent it out?

Yes. In Western Australia, homes that are sold, rented or hired must have at least two RCDs (safety switches) protecting all power point and lighting circuits. The WA Government's guide to RCD safety switches explains the rules.

What smoke alarms does a WA home need before it's sold or leased?

Before a home is sold, rented or hired, WA law requires compliant smoke alarms that are in working order, no more than 10 years old and permanently connected to mains power. Alarms with a 10-year non-removable battery are only allowed in limited situations. See the WA Government's smoke alarm laws for homes being sold, rented and hired.

How can I check that an electrician is licensed in WA?

Electrical installation work in Western Australia must be done by a licensed electrical contractor. Ask for the contractor's licence number and check it with the WA Government's licensed electrician search.
